Abstract: In this article we give some ideas to introduce based on our experience with the passage of time and with the phenomena of continuous change, the structures and concepts of differential calculus involved in the description of continuous motion and the laws that govern it. In particular, we present the structure of the System of real numbers as a mathematical model of time with its properties of order and duration. This discussion allows us to explain the meaning of the fundamental concepts of calculus such as those of real function of real variable, limit and continuity, derivative etc. We consider that it is important for a better teaching and learning of calculus, to directly relate its concepts and results with our perceptions and experiences of reality and its manifestations.
